Please click the link below to see the list of all children who participated in Reflections and will be receiving a trophy.  Please also make sure that your child’s name is spelled correctly and is listed in the right grade.  If your child can’t make it to the ceremony, they will get the trophy in their classroom at a later time.

IMPORTANT: If your child is expecting a trophy and is not listed, it’s very important that you email me at julie.samford@gmail.com right away so we can fix the issue before the ceremony. Thank you!

October 21, 2011
This morning before school was our first turn-in for Reflections.  An adorable kindergartner came up to me and said, “Are you in the forest?  My teacher told me to give my artwork to the lady in the forest.”  I had sent out a notice that I’d be in the foyer.  Kids are so cute!  I’ll be in the “forest” every Friday before and after school. The last day to turn in art is November 18th.  Thanks!

Reflections is a PTA-sponsored arts-in-education program that encourages children to express themselves through literature, art, music, photography, dance and film.

This year’s theme is “Diversity Means..”  And since this is an art contest, we feel that anyone who makes a genuine effort should win.  Every child who enters will take home a trophy!

There are some rules and guidelines for entering in each category.  Just click on the links to the right of this page to see the specific guide for each type of artwork.  Your child can submit as many entries as he or she wishes in each category.  For instance, kids can do three paintings and one music entry.  The artwork can’t be three-dimensional, but the child can take a photo of a sculpture or Lego castle they’ve created, and they can enter that in the Photography category.  They could also film a movie of the sculpting process and enter the Film/Production category.  Also, please make sure that the entries aren’t huge … there’s a 24×30″ size limit.

Creating art is a valuable learning experience.  Please encourage children to participate so that they can bask in the glory of receiving a trophy at the awards ceremony December 16th!

Entries will be judged based on quality, creativity and interpretation of this year’s theme, “Diversity Means…”  Every entry needs the accompanying Student Entry Form, which you can pick up extra copies of in the front office or download from the link at the right of this page under “Documents.” Please make sure that your child’s name is spelled correctly if they write it in themselves and that it’s easy to read and the grade level and teacher blanks are filled in.  I want to be sure to get their names right on the trophies and medals and have them in the right group at the ceremony.

Some artwork will move on to the local, state and national Reflections competition.  The students whose entries are chosen by our local artist judges to be the top 20 percent in each category will also receive a medal at the awards ceremony.  If your child isn’t inspired by this year’s theme, forget the theme and let them create their art about purple unicorns if that’s what they love!  The thing that’s great about art is there are no wrong answers when a child is expressing creativity and discovering his or her inner Picasso.

Insider tip:  Last year, the Visual Arts category had the most entries, followed by the Photography category.  If you submit a Dance, Music or Film entry, the odds are much higher that you’ll be in the top 20 percent of those categories and can win a medal.

If you are turning in an entry in music, film or dance, you can email it to me instead of putting it on a disk.  If the file is large or you’re not sure how to attach it to email, just send me a note at julie@realtimeready.com, and I’ll send you a super easy drop box that will allow you to upload the file.

This year we’re adding another dimension to the competition.  The class that turns in the most artwork for Reflections will get to have an ice cream party!

Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to volunteer to help with this program.  If you or your business would like to make a donation of any type for the Reflections program, including providing refreshments for the awards ceremony, we’ll love to have your help.   Also, feel free to ask questions in the Comments section below any page on this site.
